The beautiful summer weather - the ripe, sweet fruit harvest!
Wonderful, but tempered by one negative: the insects are celebrating their season.
They come from all over and can make life outdoors very unpleasant.
Stings from mosquitoes, wasps, fleas, horseflies and bees can really hurt, and the site of the sting swells and is very itchy!
Lumberjacks in the forests of Canada knew 200 years ago that they could counteract the effects of insect bites by applying heat. Their solution? After being bitten by a wasp, bee, or even a hornet, they lit a cigarette and held the glowing end as close as possible to the bite spot. Unfortunately, while this usually did the job, it also caused some painful burning of the skin.
What Happens When I am Stung?
After an insect bites, the protein from the insect's saliva evokes an immune response from the body.
Histamine is released into the skin cells at the bite area, and soon causes itching and swelling. Eventually the swelling diminishes, but the itching remains until the protein in the insect's salive breaks down. Until then, the itching persists no matter how much you scratch!
You could treat the bitten area with an ice pack, or you could smear half a lemon or an onion on it, or even salted spit! But these items are not usually handy! That's why scientisits have developed in BODY-PIC a new, totally effective and portable treatment.
